Do you ever just crave someone’s presence? like you would literally be happy just sitting next to them & it could be completely silent.

Even after all this time, it’s sad that I STILL do this to myself.

I told another lie today
And I got through this day
No one saw through my games
I know the right words to say
Like “I don’t feel well”
“I ate before I came”

There will be one after me,
and she will wonder why your hands shake and when she asks
why you’re afraid of ghosts
I hope your throat doesn’t burn
when you say my name.
You’ll tell her how I made you choke
on secondhand smoke
and explain that I’m the reason
there are scars on your chest.
You’ll tell her that I tore you to pieces
and walked away untouched,
but she won’t know about the nights
I spent setting my throat on fire
with apologies and alcohol,
and neither will you.

lets just be clear, if you spend the time baking a cake/cookies/brownies, you can eat as many of them as you want and the calories don’t count. you made those calories. you’re their god.

disclaimer: this does not apply to children you have made

Straight vodka burns less than telling you what you did was okay.

This is Chester. When I was in Afghanistan I got a care package from one of those “Adopt a Soldier” programs that lets families send care packages to service men and women who are deployed overseas. Anyway, I got this care package, and it came with the usual stuff: Baby wipes, crackers, peanut butter, the Dad threw in a pack of cigarettes, and there was some jerky. But there was also a little beanie baby gold fish and a hand written note from a 7 year old girl that said
“Dear Soldier, (I wasn’t even mad)
I hope you are doing well. I’m sorry you have to miss thanksgiving with your family. This is my friend Chester. He keeps me safe from monsters, but I think you need him more than I do. I hope he keeps you safe from the monsters you’re fighting. Take good care of him for me”.

You bet your ass that little fish was in my pocket every time I went on patrol.

I’m ashamed of myself because I know I should be better and I have no idea how to get there.
